Community
Growing together in faith, hope, and love.
Our Community
One Ancient Hope Church strives to be a community in which believers grow in faith, hope, and love. While each believer's identity as an individual in Christ is important, the Bible calls us to live in community. In being united to Christ, we are also united to his family - the church. Jesus designed his church to be open and inviting, actively extending many of the benefits of Covenant community life to anyone - followers, seekers, and skeptics alike.
At One Ancient Hope, we have opportunities for individuals and families, men and women, young and old, to build community with one another. We hope that life-giving friendships will be formed and that together we may serve our neighbors and our city.
If you are new to One Ancient Hope, visit us on a Sunday morning.
Women's Ministry
Women play a vital role in the life and ministry of the church. At One Ancient Hope we are blessed to have numerous talented women who care deeply about our community and each other. Our women's ministry team exists to cultivate community and spiritual growth in the context of relationships with other women. Our women's ministry team plans great activities such as monthly coffee shop gatherings, bridal and baby showers, playgroups, cookie decorating, thrift trips, picnics, and holiday gatherings. We meet bi-weekly during the school year for a Bible study in the fall and a book study in the spring. We are currently studying You're Only Human by Kelly M. Kapic through June 4. This coming fall, we will be studying the book of Revelation, led by Kristin Bankston.
Our current women's ministry team leaders are Jordan De Groot and Tamera Penning. Please reach out to them at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Community Meals
One Ancient Hope comes together frequently for community-wide meals. These meals often take place after a service. During the summer we take advantage of great Iowa weather to enjoy BBQs on Fridays at one another's homes or in and around Iowa City.
Worship Arts
The arts hold an important place in both our worship services and educational opportunities. One Ancient Hope draws upon the gifts God has given people including music, visual arts, and poetry to enrich our gatherings and to draw us closer to Christ. Instrumentalists and vocalists regularly lead congregational singing each week, and opportunities to sing in choirs and play in ensembles are offered several times throughout the church year. Contact Matthew Penning, [email protected], if you are interested in participating.
